One of my favorite math problems:
One of the most important concepts in mathematics is problem solving. Students will use problem solving skills throughout their school years. Learning how to apply these concepts is as important as learning them. Problem solving techniques can stay with a child for the rest of their life.
One of my favorite math problems is Four Circles and a Square. Four circles are placed equally on top of a square box, so that each one of them covers an edge. Square ABCD has the centers of four equal circles as its vertices. The diamond shaped area that lies in the center of the four circles sitting within the square is shaded in. The problem is that one needs to find the total area of the shaded center.
